(Jason Bakaas at the 2019 Calgary ACTS Cat Awards)

Jason Bakaas is a multifaceted LGBTQIA+ emerging artist based in Calgary, Alberta, working as an actor, director, playwright, and puppeteer. He proudly serves as the Co-Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Untold Stories Theatre.

As a performer, Jason has graced stages across the city. Notable roles include Benny in "Rent" with Storybook Theatre and the award-winning portrayal of Princeton in "Avenue Q" with Front Row Centre Players, recognized for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role at the Calgary ACTS annual CAT Awards. His other credits include Chadwick in "Elf" and Mr. Bundles in "Annie" with StoryBook Theatre, as well as various ensemble roles in acclaimed productions such as Disney’s "Beauty and the Beast," "The Wedding Singer," "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," and "Footloose." Jason has also showcased his vocal prowess as a soloist in numerous cabarets and concerts throughout Calgary. On screen, he has made notable appearances in FX’s Fargo, HBO's The Last of Us, and Vertical Entertainment's Still/Born.

Beyond the spotlight, Jason has carved his path as a director, overseeing productions like "The Prom," Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella," "The Wind in the Willows" at Untold Stories Theatre, and "Robin Hood and His Merry Men" at Morpheus Theatre. His creative contributions extend to set and prop design for various shows with Untold Stories Theatre and StoryBook Theatre.

Jason's artistic journey began at the Alberta University of the Arts (formerly known as the Alberta College of Art and Design), where he pursued a degree in Media Arts, specializing in Video and Sound mediums. With passion, talent, and a commitment to diversity, Jason continues to be a driving force in Calgary's vibrant arts community.
